Pedal for Prizes 2023!

Saturday, May 20th

We’re so glad to bring back Pedal for Prizes again in 2023!

While the scavenger hunt versions were fun and a good way to help us get through the pandemic and social distancing, we’re thrilled to be going back to the original format. This year the ride will start at Old Brooklyn’s newest recreational green space – Brighton Park. The 25-acre park is located on Pearl Road, near Burger King just south of Wildlife Way.

More details will be coming soon, but in the meantime check out some PFP swag at Metropolitan Coffee. T-shirts are available for purchase, and donations to help us continue to put on the event are much appreciated! We’re also looking for event sponsors so if you’re interested please reach out to John Young (Speed Exterminating).

Can’t wait to get our pedal on!

Pedal for Prizes 2021

Memorial Day weekend through July 4th weekend!

(Starting Saturday, May 29th)

Ride at your own pace ~ Visit every destination ~ Win prizes!

Pedal for Prizes and Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation are teaming up again to bring a 2.0 version of our no-contact bicycling event to the neighborhood in 2021!

Our goal remains the same: Getting people on their bikes, with the chance to win prizes, by exploring all the great businesses and points of interest that Old Brooklyn has to offer! The event is free and open to all.

There will be over two dozen points of interest throughout the Old Brooklyn community. Ride your bike to every destination, find the specific letter at each destination and record it on the proper space of your form. When all  destinations are filled out, simply scan or take a picture of the form and email it to sandyw@oldbrooklyn.com.

Don’t have access to a computer? No problem! Forms will be available at Sixth City Cycles and the OBCDC office located at 4274 Pearl Road, Cleveland, OH 44109. Once completed, mail or drop off the form to OBCDC by July 6th.

Participants are advised to practice bicycle safety: wear a helmet and follow local traffic laws. We suggest children under 16 be accompanied by an adult.

More information, including the official PFP form, will be coming soon. Stay tuned!

Apologies…

We hit a little bump in the road getting all the signs up 😬🚧 Most are up and the remaining merchants will be ready to go soon!

Keep in mind this is a bit of a scavenger hunt and some of the destination signs may take a little searching to find 🔍🤔 Hint on the Brookside Reservation sign: Ridge Road will lead you there…

Pedal on! 🚲

Let’s Ride!

Pedal for Prizes and Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation have teamed up to bring a no-contact bicycling event to the neighborhood in 2020. Head out for an extended ride this year ~ The event takes place over 6 weeks: July 20th through August 31st!

Our goal remains the same: Getting people on their bikes, with the chance to win prizes, by exploring all the great businesses and points of interest that Old Brooklyn has to offer! The event is free and open to all.

Pedal for Prizes 2020 Update!

The PFP team, with the help of Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation, have redesigned Pedal for Prizes as a no-contact event.

Fill out the PFP form as you go, and when you’re done, turn it in to be entered into the raffle. A full list of destinations, instructions and the official form will be coming soon. Stay tuned!

Pedal for Prizes 2020 Postponed

Hey everyone – we’ve decided to put Pedal for Prizes on hold and are hoping we can reschedule the event in Summer or Fall. We’re looking forward to celebrating Pedal’s 10th year and hope it’ll be the biggest turn out yet!

In the meantime, please be sure to support Old Brooklyn’s businesses that remain open. Follow Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation for the latest neighborhood updates, and above all, stay safe!

Pedal 2020 ~ Our 10th year!

Old Brooklyn’s Pedal for Prizes is celebrating its 10th year! We can’t believe it! This year PFP will be back in the heart of Old Brooklyn at Pearl Road United Methodist Church.

Save the date for Saturday, May 16th! More details can be found here.

Last minute tips for PFP

We’re looking forward to hosting our 9th Old Brooklyn Pedal for Prizes tomorrow!  Hope you are excited as well!

It’s tradition for us to post a guide of helpful information for everyone.  Here we go!

Location: We’re switching it up this year to Pearl Road United Methodist Church, 4200 Pearl Rd. We’re excited to be in Downtown OB. Be sure to thank them for hosting us.

Parking: Check out the map of where to park and not park tomorrow here.

Everywhere else that seems privately owned, park at your own risk.

T-Shirts and Backpacks: We will have a few past-season Pedal for Prizes t-shirts for sale for $20/each.  Proceeds will be used for us to bring back Old Brooklyn Pedal for Prizes in 2020.  It’s money well spent if you enjoy the event and would like to see it continue in the future.

We will be giving away backpacks for you to take on the ride. Register and you get one free, courtesy of some great neighborhood businesses that support the event.

Weather: The event happens on Saturday regardless of the weather.  Right now, the forecast is calling for very nice weather, but we all know that that can change. Prepare for the weather!

Expedited Registration: This is a huge help to us. Please print this form and fill it out for each participant before coming to the event. Bring it to the registration table and we’ll check you in quickly. Save yourself from having to wait in a long line and help us keep everything going smoothly!

For registration, we should be outside.  There are restrooms inside if you need to use them. However, we ask to please be respectful of the property (i.e. do not walk on the gym floor with cycling shoes).

Registration: We will begin registering participants at 9:30am. You’ll be able to head out after doing so, and there’s no need to wait around for an official send-off.  We will register participants up until 1pm.  You do not need to head out at 9:30 or 10am, though!

Pedal for Prizes is completely free and open to cyclists of all ages and skill levels.

You’ll sign a release form (again, print it, fill it out, and bring to the event if possible!) receive a map of twenty destinations and a punch card.  Cyclists are free to go on their way to as many destinations as they’d like in any order.  Stay at destinations as long as you’d like.

We reserve the right to request proof that you have and will be using your bicycle for the event.

Raffle: The raffle begins promptly at 2pm. We will be raffling several brand new bikes, as well as many other prizes.  In all, we should have about 50 prizes valued at a minimum of $20. We won’t have a final list until a day or two before the event, as we are receiving and packaging prizes up until the last minute.

Help us move the raffle along by returning punctually and dropping your tickets in the bins of the prizes you’d like to win.

Please remain patient during the raffle and help others be patient as well.  Your cooperation will help it go quickly and smoothly, which everyone would like.

At the moment, we are planning to do the raffle outside in the church’s front yard.  But in case we need to do it in the church’s basement hall, bring a lock to lock up.

50/50 Raffle: This is the fourth year we will be hosting a 50/50 raffle as a fundraiser for next year’s event. If you enjoy the event, please consider participating, as every dollar helps us host a first-class event next year.

Destinations: This year’s event will have twenty destinations.  You won’t know the destinations until you register at Pearl Road United Methodist Church.

We provide you a map and addresses of destinations at which you’ll have your card stamped.  Some participants have had success using GPS or riding in small groups in the past.

Destinations will stop punching cards around 1:15pm.  Return to Pearl Road United Methodist Church in time for you to exchange your punch card for raffle tickets and drop them in your desired prize bins.  Remember, the raffle starts at 2pm.

In the past, some people have done the event, left for a little bit, then came back.  That’s fine by us.

Cheating: Pedal for Prizes is meant to be a fun event done by bicycle. We are hardworking volunteers who have put thousands of our own time into coordinating a fun event for the community.  We have no tolerance for people who cheat and drive their cars from destination to destination. Participants found to be using motor vehicles for the event will have their punch cards revoked and will be barred from participating in the raffle. Do the right thing.

If you observe instances of cheating, please report it to us immediately.  Merchants and people staffing our destinations will be keeping an eye out for foul play as well.
